Abundance and Intent

I was recently reading in one of Doreen's Virtues books that her mentor Louise Hays told her that once she started asking the questions "How can I serve" instead of worrying about finances, her business and finances took off like wild fire.  Often times people in the healing and helping professions are wary of financial abundance.  Spiritual abundance we might have no problem with  but financial abundance seems to many of us to be contradictory of what we are here to do for others.  I certainly know I have had this conflict with having abundance in my life.  I have chooses professions; social worker and teacher that are grossly underpaid.  Even in my private practice I have chosen to reduce my rates and tuition for Reiki Classes so it is more affordable so people can have better access to learning it.  My intent is to further Reiki healing.

Some of my friends and I have recently started to reexamine and do some soul searching on abundance.  One of my Reiki apprentice students recently reminded me of Wayne Dyer's statement that I will paraphrase; "Being poor does nothing to help the poor."  So what does this mean?  Should we all go out and manipulate others in business to obtain insurmountable wealth so we can have financial abundance?  Of course not.  However, it doesn't have to be so black and white.  We can have financial and spiritual abundance at the same time if we choose to.  The only way to do this and keep this harmonious and pure is to examine our intent.  If our intent is solely to promote our own needs and goals then even if we are helpers and healers, the energy put forth is not healing.  If our intent is "to serve" as Louise Hays pointed out, then we heal ourselves and others as we live a life that is full in all aspects.

From personal experience I can tell you then whenever I take on the attitude "How Can I Best Serve or Help" my private sessions are ten times better, my classes are more dynamic and I am in a state of self referral rather than object referral where ego issues may hinder my sessions.  I also find that the laws of the universe work with me and attract more clients when my intent is right and pure.  Sure advertising and networking help also but all the advertising in the world isn't as powerful as the Unified Field that can send constant blessings to us in many forms.  If our intent is to have more financial wealth so we can help more people than pathways and roads will be open to us more and more.  The most important thing to remember is that we need to constantly circulate the wealth in order for us to keep the flow going and to keep it pure.

Does that mean we have to be in a healing or helping profession in order for our intent to be pure and harmonious?  I don't believe so.  Another example comes from yet another Reiki apprentice last month.  During our monthly meetings she told me that her boss who is a manager of a large insurance firm is constantly doing things for her and other employees to boost their morale and self esteem.  He is not a Reiki Practitioner but he is doing healing at his firm every day.  He makes a fairly good living, however, shares his wealth outside of work also.  Recently he was in line at a grocery store and the person in front of him was low on cash and had no credit card.  He paid for all of their groceries!  This is what we all should strive for.  Living a life where we can reach out to others in any way possible to help and to serve.   If living a simple life without money is your goal you can certainly still serve and heal others in ways that don't involve a monetary exchange.  However, if financial abundance or perhaps just stability is something you desire I would suggest reexamining  your attitudes on this.   Keep your focus and desire pure and on spreading love and healing to as many as possible and  you will become abundant instantly, and the rest will follow.  Deepak Chopra clarifies a lot on this subject in his book "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success."  I have listed some of his thoughts below.

Thoughts for the Month

"It is the  intention behind your giving and receiving that is the most important thing.  The intention should always be to create happiness for the giver and receiver, because happiness is life-supporting and life-sustaining and therefore generates increase.  The return is directly proportional to the giving when it is unconditional and from the heart.

The word affluence comes from the root word "affluere" which means "to flow to."  The word affluence means "to flow in abundance."  Money is really a symbol of the life energy we exchange and the life energy we use as a result of the service we provide to the universe.  Another word for money is "Currency," which also reflects the flowing nature of energy.  The word currency comes from the Latin word "currere" which means "to run" or to flow.

Therefore, if we stop the circulation of money - if our only intention is to hold on to our money and hoard it - since it is life energy, we will stops its  circulation back into our lives as well.  In order to keep that energy coming to us, we have to keep the energy circulating,  Like a river, money must keep flowing, otherwise it begins to stagnate, to clog, to suffocate and strangle its very own life force.  Circulating keeps is alive and vital.

The more you give, the more you will receive, because you will keep the abundance of the universes circulating in your life.
