 Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah

You might be asking yourself if I have lost track of time.  After all, isn't it the 4th of July Weekend?  Yet what better time to remember the season of giving.  Don't we all tell ourselves every December, "We should act like this all year long, not just as Christmas or Hanukah."

There is a simple, basic and powerful rule in the Universe.  The more you give the more you get.  If you want to receive love from someone, give them love.  If you want someone's respect, give them respect.  If you want someone to listen to you, listen to them.  If you want to achieve a personal goal such as weight loss or finding time to meditate or someone else achieve their personal goals.  We receive at the moment we give as the offer and kindness extended is a gift in itself.  However, in addition you will find that things will also come back to you in other ways, and the things that you desire will manifest.

The point isn't to give to get back.  The intention must be pure.  The results will  come to you in ways that will be tenfold.  There are always ways we can find to help others and give gifts.  I am not speaking of materialistic ways.  It could be a phone call or an email for support;  a smile or encouraging word when someone is down; a compliment for something they have accomplished.  Have you ever paid the toll for the car behind you - a complete stranger? Try it.  Some times it will be acknowledge with a smile, and sometimes they will just drive on by.  It doesn't matter.  You may not have someone pay your toll for you in the future, however, your act of kindness will be returned to you.

Do you have  a birthday coming up this month?  Give a gift to someone on YOUR birthday.  Look for ways every day to  offer something.  Many of you know I have a Soap Box lecture of carrying for yourself and not ignoring your own needs.  So please do not misunderstand and think I am saying to ignore your own needs.  We should always go the extra mile for others, AND the extra mile for ourselves.  You will be blessed with abundance, peace and  joy with adopting the practice of giving.

Find ways in every encounter that you have to add something positive.  The check-out clerk or waiters, that are a little grumpy.... give them a smile.  The guy behind you honking his horn...say a prayer or blessing to him.  Now these may not be an automatic knee jerk responses of course.  Some days we might say something under our breath first and then remember to add positive to the world instead of matching negative energy.   But the more we make it our aim, focus and practice the more it will become habit and eventually a knee jerk response.

There is an old Chinese tale about the woman whose only son died.  In her grief, she went to the holy man and said, "What prayers, what magical incantations do you have to bring my son back to life?"  Instead of sending her on her way or reasoning with her, he said to her, "Fetch me a mustard seed from a home that has never known sorrow.  We will use it to drive the sorrow out of your  life."  The woman set off at once in search of that magical mustard seed.  She came first to a splendid mansion, knocked at the door, and said, "I am looking for a home that has never known sorrow.  Is this such a place?"  It is very important to me."  They told her, "you've certainly come to the wrong place," and began to describe all the tragic things that had recently befallen them.  The woman said to herself, "Who is better able to help these poor, unfortunate people than I, who have had a misfortune of my own?"  She stayed to comfort them, then went on in her search for a home that had never known sorrow.  But wherever she turned, in hovels and in palaces, she found one tale after another of sadness and misfortune.  Ultimately, she became so involved in ministering to other people's grief that she forgot about her quest for the magical mustard seed, never realizing that it had in fact driven the sorrow of our her life.

We are living in a time where even the smallest pebble of kindness thrown into the ocean will create a powerful ripple effects.   We can no longer  sleep walk through life.  It doesn't take a lot of time, money or effort,  just a new focus and goal.  Our purpose in life is to Love and spread Love as often as we can.

Happy Holiday
