Being Grateful

For the last couple months, I have been writing about waking up feeling joy and bliss.  Another simple and powerful way to do this is to start everyday with an attitude of gratefulness.  Each morning as you awake, pause for a moment and immediately start to think about everything your are grateful for in your life.  It helps if you don't have a glaring alarm clock waking you up.  If you don't wake up on your own, start the day with beautiful music instead of an alarm, or sounds of nature.  Phrases such as, "I am so grateful that I have another exciting day in my life," or "I am so grateful for waking up to these beautiful sounds," can start your day off on the right foot before you even get out of bed.

As you walk around your home, be in the moment and observe everything around you.  Perhaps you are grateful for the food on your table, for the warm shower, or the weather that morning.  If you are able to walk outside in the morning and spend time in nature, it won't be hard to find things to be add to your list.  No matter what the weather, and what time of year it is, you will find countless things to observe and give thanks for.  I notice that when I am in the moment and feeling gratitude I will see more birds or notice more flowers.

If we also take time in the morning to be grateful for family and friends, we will notice that our relationship with them that day will be more genuine and healthy.  One thing I have learned is not to do this as a rote exercise that simple is done as a ritual with no feeling.  Our emotions are key to attracting physical health and any manifestation we desire.  Truly being and feeling grateful, is key.

It is true that there are some situations or individuals that we may find it hard to be grateful for in our lives.  I would like to suggest to add them to your list anyway.  The people and situations that cause us harm and pain are our greatest teachers.  When we look back on our lives, we can always see how these events and individuals have eventually made us take a new turn for the better.  Send loving and healing thoughts to them and move on to think about people and events that give you comfort and joy.

Remember, everything is attitude.  Reality is what we decide it to be.  Being grateful is a wonderful reality.

 Thought for the Month

"If I feel depressed I will sing.

If I feel sad I will laugh.

If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.

If I feel incompetent I will remember past success."
