Try Being A Couch Potato

Many of you know that I am a big believer in the benefits, (mind, body and spirit), of exercise.  So I am not suggesting this month that people stop doing this or delay in starting a daily exercise routine.   What I would like to suggest, however, is that we all take some time to just relax, have some fun, or maybe even do nothing.   Most of us have very hectic schedules.  When this happens we often find ourselves getting sick and/or stressed and unhappy.  The last few weeks have been very busy for me (hence why this newsletter is coming a little late).  I decided to handle it with scheduling in more down time.  It meant prioritizing a little differently.  I didn't clean the house as much or often, I sent this newsletter later and so on.  So instead of having a week or so of too much to do and stressing myself out,  I had a week of a lot more
"down time" and fun than even my normal routine.  Deepak Chopra writes about "Do less accomplish more".  It certainly works.

I think it is important to make "play time" a daily routine.  That may mean, playing with your dog, children, or doing anything that is fun.  When things get very busy, most of us don't do any of this.  So what I am suggesting is to do MORE of this when you get busy.   Try it and see what happens next time.

Negative energy and thoughts breed more negativity.  I am sure you all have had days where you are in a bad mood.  Everyone you run into that day irritates you more.  The car doesn't run right, or the service at a store is less than desirable.  What we think and put out in the universe surrounds us in all areas of our lives.

Recently someone I care deeply for had a week full with too many demands at school and work.  To top it off she had an unexpected crisis with some furniture being delivered at the wrong time and broken.  She ended up getting physically sick with all the stress.  I certainly have done the same thing many times as I am sure you all have.  I suggested she just go in her bedroom, (to avoid the furniture), cuddle up in her nice blankets, put on some nice music or a good comedy on a DVD, light some candles and read or relax.

So the next time these days or weeks happen to you.  Take a mental health day.  Give yourself the permission to be a couch potato. with amazement what will unfold for you.  You might even get more done, but either way you will be more happy and healthy.

Thoughts for the Month

"When I'm happy I feel like crying, but when I'm sad I don't feel like laughing.  I think it is better to be happy.  Then you get two feelings for the price of one.
Lilly Tomlin
"Nothing erases unpleasant thoughts more effectively than concentration on pleasant ones."
Hans Selye
"Life literally abounds in comedy if you just look around you."
Mel Brooks
"Things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things
 turn out."
